How I Plan and Reflect on my Self-Development, so I can Shine Bright

How I Plan and Reflect on my Self-Development, so I can Shine Bright

Self-development is taking steps to better yourself, such as by learning new skills, overcoming bad habits and this includes retraining your brain!

It is an opportunity to reflect on your life and focus on what makes you happy, what you want to achieve and how you can get there.  I’ve been doing a lot of self-development recently. It has always been something that I’ve enjoy doing, I just love learning. I am lucky enough to be able to dedicate more time to it now.

The answer to my weird and wonderful symptoms

Retrain Brain and Simply-Shine - The Answer to the Symptoms

This post was updated on 24/03/18

This is the next instalment in my The Journey section. To read the previous posts, click here.

Monday 29th April 2013- That’s a date that will remain in my memory for a long time.

The day of my neurologist appointment. First of all, as strange as this might sound, I was lucky to get this far so quickly. There are so many people who have weird and wonderful symptoms as I called them, that push to see a specialist but get no where. I know what it is like to have a GP who doesn’t understand. Who has no answer for the symptoms and so makes suggestions only for them not to work. From January to March 2013 I went back and forth to the GP. For other people reading this who have been through something similar, I know that 3 months is a relatively short length of time and for that I am very lucky.

How My Wellbeing Review Left Me Emotional

How My Wellbeing Review Left Me Emotional

Retrain Brain and Simply-Shine - Hello March

This post was updated on 24/03/18

Today is my Wellbeing Wednesday! The first Wednesday of the month where I share my plans for my wellbeing for the month ahead. I’ve recently set up a new format for this, you can read more about this here.

Well before I delve into the categories I should mention that I have set a challenge for March. #3forMe March Self-Care Challenge is about carrying out 3 self-care activities every day.  It is too easy to get caught up in the day to day and not spend time looking after your mind, body and soul. This challenge keeps me accountable to do just that.

I am so excited that a number of people are also taking part in both Shine in Self-Care Facebook group and Instagram. I am on a mission to get as many people taking care of themselves more. If you would like to get involved, click on either link above.

Otherwise read on to see what March wellbeing looks like for me.

How to Feel Good in Feb with FND

How to Feel Good in Feb with FND

Retrain Brain and Simply-Shine - Hello February

This post was updated on 24/03/18

Towards the end of the month, typically on the last Wednesday, I sit with no distractions and focus on my monthly goals in relation to well-being; I have a review and look to the month ahead to see what I might want to aim for. I think this is so important. If you don’t stop every now and again to take stock, how do you know you are focusing on the right things. There is no doubt that being healthy has always been important to me and it has now become a keen interest and passion.

In a previous blog post, which you can read here, I explained that I have expanded the dimensions I look at. I’ve included headings the areas I will focus on as well as a little explanation/further detail.

How I went from collapse to conquer with my health

How I went from collapse to conquer with my health

Retrain Brain and Simply-Shine - Collapse to Conquer

This post was updated on 24/03/18

For the last 10 days or so, I’ve had a flare up of symptoms, which includes

  • Weakness in legs
  • Difficulty standing, walking
  • Drop falls
  • Severe tiredness; struggling to keep eyes open and speech slurred.

When I’ve felt like this, I’ve had little option but to rest. I haven’t had the brain power to do anything else. There is no doubt that having a flare up is frustrating etc. No one is going to enjoy them.  I had to cancel or change plans, including going to a birthday party of a good friend. Well there is never a good time to be ill though is there. So rather than dwell on it and think life is on hold, I acknowledge how I am feeling and accept it means I need to rest. That’s not wasting time. It is exactly what I need.

Announcing How I’ve Improved My Wellbeing Review

Announcing How I’ve Improved My Wellbeing Review

Retrain Brain and Simply-Shine - how I have changed my wellbeing review

This post was updated on 24/03/18

I love how successful the #3forMe Challenge Facebook group has been throughout December. It was great to see so many people getting involved and looking after their health. After the first few days of the challenge, it got me thinking about the wellbeing review and plan I do once a month. Towards the end of the month, typically on the last Wednesday, I sit with no distractions and review my wellbeing goals and plan for the month ahead. I think this is so important to set goals and review them to live an intentional and purposeful life. In relation to wellbeing specifically, I know how important it is to take care of myself and this is now a real passion of mine.  I researched wellbeing further. There are various areas that combine to create someone’s wellbeing, which leads to a well-balanced, happy and healthy life. I have decided to use new areas in my review going forwards. I thought I would introduce the new categories to you, so you are ready and excited for the next post in the series, due out later this week.  I’ve included headings for the areas I will focus on as well as a little explanation/further detail.
